A new version of our Google Voice Plugin is now available. Version .2.2 has some fixes to the UI that some very cool early adopters pointed out to us. Also, we have a few new videos that shows you how to setup Google Voice, install our plugin, and configure the widget for maximum customization.

A Quick Note: The “Do Not Disturb” control panel now works properly. Thanks to our early adopters again.

Let us know what you think!

A new Twitter follower @Pickering asked us a question on how to find the code needed from Google to embed into the widget. Here is a screenshot that shows where youcan find it in Google Voice. Please remember that you must first create a Widget. I am making a video to show off how that is done. That will be up later today. Thanks Steve Pickering (@Pickering)!

Putting The Cart Before The Horse

After a few years of playing with, breaking in half, fixing up, and general admiration of WordPress, Mike and I decided to get into the WordPress development/extend pool with everybody else. Who are Mike and I? Our profile page will give up just enough data for our identies to be stolen and our women to leave us. More on this later.

First, I wanted to thank the good people at Cordobo for making this slick theme for us to park our information on while we get out our cookbook of alchemy reciepes to brew up our own concoction. Thankfully, WordPress is much easier to turn electrons into gold than lead used to be.

Second, the whole "cart before the horse" thing refers to the plugin we have released and are currently developing. Usually, WordPress developers make their themes and then crank out an extremely useful plugin or two to make their site, and the WordPress community, better. We had an idea, a really good idea, and jumped at the chance to join you all. So, awesome plugin now, theme later.

Finally, the plugin! What got us so excited? Google Voice did. In a big way. Mike and I had been using the various tools at our disposal to send/receive quality phone calls to the various devices we had strapped to us, in our office, and homes. Skype, Gizmo, and GrandCentral were at the top of the list. But the single number and routing of Google voice made our ears perk up when we first heard of it. All of the stuff that made the other great but made by Google and free? Where do we sign up?! After getting our invitations, we started playing. Blown away we were! Blown! Google has merged excellent feature from various products into one and put their own spin on it. Now, we have put our spin on Google Voice.

The Google Voice Widget Plugin allows WordPress site owners to embed the Google Voice Badge into any widget-ized area on your site. People will be a click away from dialing you and talking to you about your site and your products! But wait there is more!* We will be adding a bunch of functionality to the Google Voice Widget Plugin, like multiple badge creation, text wrappers, a no-flash version, and do-not-disturb. Currently, the basic version of the Google Voice Widget Plugin is available. Please download it, try it out, and let us know what you think! Thank you to everybody that has downloaded it so far!

For now, that is all.

*(RIP Billy Mays)
